February 2009

Last week, we had the chance for Marion to do some more work for Poppy Pants. And of course we said yes! We had a fab time and came home with a gorgeous new diaper!

She laughs so much now – it’s so cute!

Quite a bit different from this (almost) same pose five months ago!

PS – I know you are super jealous of our sunshine and green grass!

Such a big girl now!

She’s also growing harder to take pictures of laying down!

See what I mean?

You, bear. Get away from me.

And look what she can do this month!

This is her “the bear looks yummy to eat” face

Of course, everything is yummy to eat this month

Even Nanuq!

Letters to my daughter, month five

Josh received this catalog in the mail the other day

My what a nice thick catalog you are. You must be full of pages.

That now look like this

And this.

Thanks to this.

Which is why we call her destruct-o baby :)

So things have been a little quiet on the knitting front here lately, but that’s just because I’ve been keeping a secret!

My bestie Brenda had her baby shower yesterday, so I can finally post this. Brenda sent us the most amazing, thoughtful and all around incredible present for Marion, and I didn’t know how I could possibly even begin to reciprocate. Until she told me she liked tiny knitted baby hats. And an idea was born.

A sweet little hat for each day of the week. (Technically, since there were only five, I suppose that’s a hat for every weekday of the week, but um, I didn’t have to overnight this present, so I think the fact that I managed to get five hats there on relative time was enough of a feat in itself to negate the missing two weekend day hats.)

Monday’s Oopsy-Daisy hat

(Please ignore the fact that the pictures are horrid. While I didn’t have to overnight the package, I did have to send it second day with Saturday delivery, so I’m sure you can imagine that didn’t leave a lot of time for photo taking.)

From Susan B. Anderson’s Itty-Bitty Hats

Tuesday’s Team Spirit

Wednesday’s Whimsy. Another one from Itty Bitty Hats.

This one was so cute and so fun to knit that I think Marion might be getting a matching one.

Thursday’s Cuteness. A matching sweet baby cap to the one I made for Miss M.

Friday’s Fancy. This is probably the fastest knit baby hat ever. It’s unbelievable how quickly it knits up!

Super Quick Baby Bonnet and the super quick part is no lie!

So Brenda, I hope your SLG (that’s sweet little girl in Kat & Brenda speak) enjoys wearing these as much as I enjoyed making them! *MUAH!*

Valentine’s Day, Hallmark holiday that it might be, holds a special place in our hearts (no pun intended.) Valentine’s Day was when I stood up the hot rock wall instructor to have pizza with the even hotter Josh. Six years later, it’s still the best decision I’ve ever made!

We celebrated by having Josh take Monday off of work, and we took Marion to the zoo for the first time!

It was a gorgeous day and despite the fact the zoo was free (since it was Presidents’ Day) the crowds weren’t too bad.

We believe the warthogs are distant relatives of the wild Lou Bear

Pretty sure they are licking each other’s ears clean, how gross is that?

The butterfly garden

There’s a scarf waiting to be knit from the inspiration in that tail.

Mar practiced sitting up in the eagle’s nest

She was quite proud of herself!

We even took her into the petting zoo. She thought the goats were stranger versions of Nanuq. I have a feeling she’s going to be one of those kids who calls anything on four legs “doggie.”

Big ol’ lion

Enormous lion paw

There’s knitting inspiration in this picture too. But I’m not that talented. Or crazy.

Giraffe!

The giraffes had a little baby – just sixteen days old when we were there – no pictures of him, but he was adorable!

Not as cute as this little girl with her Sophie giraffe, but still pretty cute. She spent 75% of the time in this position – the zoo is awfully tiring!

She perked up when Daddy sat down to eat lunch though!

Can you tell we are in the midst of teething?

And we bought a yearly membership, so I expect these aren’t the last of the zoo pictures!

Because having two real puppies of her own isn’t enough!

Look at all my puppies momma!

Mr. Brown Dog is listening very intently

And then there’s Pink Puppy for the diaper changes

Apparently, Pink Puppy belongs in her belly

Puppies are yummy!

It’s my first library card!

Here, see it?

It’s very tasty!

Momma believes the best way to get kids to read is for kids to see their parents reading.

So she got a library card too.

But I don’t know how much reading she thinks she can get done with me in the house!

I didn’t get any books this time

Because it was too close to nap time and I didn’t want to cooperate

It’s okay. I probably would have just eaten them anyway :)

For Marme. Who made summers bearable for four kids with weekly library trips.

The weather has been really nice around here lately

Sunny, slight breeze, warm and springlike temperatures

Weather that makes you want to be outside

So why does Nanuq act like we live at the North Pole?

I mean, really? It was 75 outside when I took that picture!

Did he forget he has his own fur coat?

Yes, you truly are that pathetic Nanuq

This weekend was nice and boring – just the way we like them! The weather was gorgeous as well, so we spent lots of time outdoors, just being a family together.

Mar and Daddy practiced standing up

This is a totally goofy picture of her – but look at that big round belly!

Then they practiced in the grass

We tried to take a picture together, but she was too distracted by the grass

Or was too busy trying to poke me in the cheek

But that’s okay, because I got to give her kisses

Then she tried to give me some

And succeeded in licking me.

I guess I don’t taste very good :/

The best we could do at a family picture :)

I also redid the apple pie from last week. But this time without the crust because I can make a pie crust in my sleep. Plus, I was hit with the Texas funk and was too lazy to make a crust this weekend. So technically, it was apple crisp or crumb or whatever you call apple pie without a crust. And it was so good, this is the only picture I could get.
